Morning in Miami: These Are the Best Breakfast Spots in the City

Ah, wake up and smell the bacon, eggs, and coffee. It's time to check out five of Miami's best breakfast spots. Rise and shine!

Who doesn’t like breakfast? I personally believe breakfast is the best meal of the day. Not only because it’s the most important, but it always seems to taste better when it’s late in the day. This is why iHop and Waffle House are so popular. They are open 24 hours a day, bringing you the deliciousness of breakfast whenever you feel like stopping in. But the problem with those breakfast chains is that you know what is on the menu before you even walk in. How about trying something different when you’re in a beautiful city like Miami, Florida? How about trying one of the five best breakfast spots in Miami?

Donut Gallery Diner

Small, but full of life. This little diner may not look like much from the outside, but inside there’s energy, culture, and excellent food. Fitted with a stainless steel bar, small tables, and 1950’s style bar stools, the environment just reeks with comfort and friendliness. Now, before you consider going to Donut Gallery Diner, understand that your patronage will not be met with a quiet and peaceful meal. Not only does conversation and noises from the kitchen fill the air of this small environment, but also Donut Gallery allows street performers to perform outside or sometimes bring their instruments in. It adds a little flair to the dining experience, and don’t worry, everything is still completely sanitary.

The menu consists of great variations that mix and match eggs, bacon, cheese, French toast, pancakes, hash browns, bagels & lox, etc. There are individual choices for omelettes and customizations as well. And to finish it off, there are few healthy choices like egg whites, fruit, yogurt, and oatmeal.

If you enjoy your breakfast so much, then head back for lunch to try any of their delicious entrees in the middle of the day.

GreenStreet Café

This café brings a dollop of eloquence and class to your dining experience. Open as well for brunch, lunch, and dinner, their breakfast menu has a diverse selection of pancakes, French toast, and omelettes. From coconut crusted French toast to whole wheat/gluten-free pancakes to omelette selections that seem too good to only try one. They also have bagels and egg dishes, and the egg dishes mainly come in the scrambled variety. But, if you’re not a scrambled egg kind of person, then changing your order to your liking should not be a problem.

What sets GreenStreet Café away from the rest is their service of alcoholic beverages early in the day. Their selection includes the best choices for breakfast and hangover cures, including variants of a Bloody Mary and a Mimosa.

Just like with Donut Gallery Diner, if you enjoy your breakfast so much, try out their amazing menus for brunch, lunch, and dinner. You won’t be disappointed.

S&S Diner

Take a trip back in time and eat breakfast in the middle of what should be a historical landmark. S&S Diner may not look so good on the outside, but on the inside is one of the best breakfasts you’ll get to eat in Miami.

With so many classic feels and big coffee mugs, you won’t have a problem being transported back to 1938, when this place was first opened. Its style and atmosphere can be best described as simplistic comfort. You’ll feel right at home here, no matter where you’re from or where you’ve been. S&S induces peace of mind and easy going with their good food, good cooking, and good smells.

Their special breakfasts include variations of eggs, bacon, grits, toast, biscuits, potatoes, and ham. Their favorite breakfasts stretch from classics like a one egg sandwich to salmon cakes & eggs to burgers & eggs to waffles & eggs and to crab cakes & eggs. There’s something for everyone here and with plenty of sides that can be added to any order.

If your favorite movie is “Back to the Future” or you just want to enjoy a good breakfast, S&S is the place for you. When you’re in Miami for your next vacation or business trip, make sure to check them out and drink a nice big cup of their delicious coffee for me.

News Café

Here’s a 24-hour spot that isn’t an iHop, Waffle House, or some other famous breakfast chain.

News Café’s menu might not be the biggest or have the great diversity like others on this list, but their class, outdoor seating, and culinary perfection will make your experience a memorable one.

Like I said before, this sidewalk café’s menu isn’t on the same level as others on this list, but you can still get excellent choices like pancakes, French toast, waffles, omelettes, eggs benedict, vegetable quiche, and continental options: yogurt, cottage cheese, croissants, that will surely wake you up and keep you full for most of your day.

The class, setting, and friendliness of this restaurant will keep you coming back for more; especially since their dinner menu is a whole other experience you need to enjoy. Go have a wonderful breakfast in their outdoor seating with the warm, beautiful Florida sunshine shining down. It’s the perfect way to start off your day.

Jackson Soul Food

Looking for that home-style cooking to fill your belly early in the morning? Look no further than Jackson Soul Food. Their jazzy and soulful environment will make you feel at home during your first stay and when you come back again and again. They are known for having the best inexpensive menu in the Miami area, and you might think so when you look at their somewhat minimal breakfast options. But this menu is diverse and every option is made with love, making every savory bit memorable.

The menu has the standard selection of pancakes, waffles, and French toast, but their Egg breakfasts are where the menu really shines. Having choices that stretch from steak & onions & eggs to boiled fish & eggs to fried chicken legs & eggs to their delight selections that mix and match many options will have you wide-eyed because, yes, it’s a small menu, but you can’t choose because it all looks so good.

Home-style cooking isn’t done better in Miami. Jackson Soul Food is a rewarding experience waiting to happen, so make sure you pick up yours while you’re in Miami. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
