Planning a Trip to San Diego: Things to Remember Before You Go
No matter what your style of travel is, you can always find the best way to travel for you. San Diego is a great city to experience!
Traveling is always a great experience, in my opinion. While you are traveling, it is always preferable to be prepared for your trip. Here are a few ways to help you prep for a quick day trip.
If you are from an area that is much less sunny than San Diego, be sure to bring extra sunscreen and drink a little more water than you typically do at home. I cannot stress this enough, even if you are from a sunny place, still bring sunscreen. It is a great way to protect your skin and keep yourself healthy! If you plan on doing a lot of walking, bring a good pair of walking shoes. It is a good idea to travel light but don't skimp on the basics.
Bring a map
If you are visiting from out of town and you are unfamiliar with the area, be sure to bring a map. Your smart phone or your GPS are a great alternative but in the event that they die or if you can't find signal, it never hurts to have a paper map with you to help out a little. But you can always go with asking locals for directions, if you are in a friendly mood.
Make a schedule but be flexible
It is always a good idea to have a general plan for what you are wanting to do on your trip. You don't have to be extremely committed to your schedule, but it is a great way to make sure that you get the most out of your time in the area. Knowing the schedule of any business or location that you may want to visit is always good information to have. One other important thing to remember, if you are from a more rural area, be sure to account for traffic in San Diego. In some areas of town it can be difficult to find parking.
Try new things
Who doesn't love to try new things? And if you are with a group all the better! If you are going to San Diego for the first time don't be afraid to try something new. Not just in San Diego but while traveling in general, having open mind and trying a new food or a new experience is always a great way to spend your time on vacation.
Know how you prefer to travel.
Traveling alone vs. Traveling with Friends
It can always be hard to decide if you want to travel alone or travel with friends. If you are an introvert or if you love to travel with a group you can always have a great time in San Diego. There are few pros and cons of both traveling alone and while traveling with friends.
There are some benefits of traveling alone in San Diego or traveling in general. When traveling alone you don't have to worry about group approval when choosing a place to eat, or an activity to try. It can be a very enjoyable experience for those who are a little bit more introverted or prefer to have their own space; it is actually my preferred method of travel. One important thing to remember while traveling alone is to always keep a friend or family member updated about where you are going.
San Diego is actually a great city to check out by yourself. The city has a wide variety of art and history museums that you can learn a lot from, and if you are by yourself, you might be able to check them out for a little bit longer with out having to appeal to a group schedule. Some of the museums in the San Diego area are free, but not all. So if museums are your cup of tea, be sure to check out the prices and hours online, or call a head before you go.
With a group
If traveling with friends is more your thing, you can still have a great time while in San Diego! There are a ton of great restaurants and bars that are very accommodating to larger groups. And there are plenty of beach and seasonal festivals that you and your whole group will enjoy. Sometimes traveling with a group is a little bit safer. If you enjoy clubbing or the nightlife of San Diego and you are traveling with a group, you may not have to worry about being your own DD. It may also be cheaper to get a cab, if you split it among friends.
It is definitely true that locals always know the best places to eat or where to get some good drinks in the area. If you know a local, it never hurts to ask them where they like to go to eat or some of the restaurants that you should avoid. If you enjoy making some new friends, ask a local to show you around the city!
No matter what your style of travel is, you can always find the best way to travel for you. San Diego is a great city to experience! Go out there and enjoy the city!
