6 Best Things To Do With Kids In Miami

Bringing the family to Miami? Here are a few of the best things you can do with your kids in this beautiful city.

Miami: the city known for its culture and nightlife. An array of nightclubs and bars line the streets of Miami’s downtown district, and it’s an excellent city to find music festivals and other great parties. One might think Miami isn’t a great place to bring your kids, but I’m here to prove you wrong. There are quite a few things you and your entire family can enjoy while visiting the beautiful city. Some are more obvious than others, yet none of that matters when you’re having fun with loved ones. Here are six of the best things you can do with your kids while in Miami.

1. Zoos

Miami has several zoos you could bring your kids to. Each zoo has a style and personality and presents the world’s best wildlife in safe and sanitary environments.

Everyone can enjoy zoos. Parents can have an excellent time watching their kids see a Siberian tiger or an elephant for the first time. It’s the kind of moment that sends nostalgia through your veins and makes you smile. Zoos are also very time consuming. A lot of walking, usually outdoors, occurs at almost every zoo you go too. So, if you’re worried about your child staying indoors and playing video games during your vacation, Miami’s zoos can fix that. If your kid doesn’t want to go, try enticing them with the ability to feed a carrot to a giraffe. It’ll work.

Never been to a zoo before and don’t know if you’d like it? Try it. Zoos might smell funny and can get muggy once in awhile, but not much beats seeing wildlife from corners of the Earth that you may never get to visit. All those awesome animals you’ve seen on the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet will be close enough to touch, and a few of the zoos actually allow you to touch the wildlife! Try it, and if you don’t like the zoo, there’s still plenty to do around Miami.

Four of Miami’s finest zoos can be located at:

2. Aquariums

Many say space is the final frontier, but to me, the ocean is still one of the most mysterious, unexplored places on Earth. The ocean literally is a whole other world with its own life and creatures, many of which have yet to be discovered. Zoos are great and all, but there’s something about watching deep-sea creatures swim about in their mysterious world. Zoos may be more popular in Miami, but the Miami Seaquarium and Neighborhood Fish Farm offer a different experience that whole family will enjoy.

Miami Seaquarium

With indoor and outdoor sections, Miami’s finest aquarium is the pinnacle of interactivity with and education of the wonders of sealife. If dolphin interactions don’t get you excited, then what will is their Sea Trek Reef Encounter, where you get the chance to swim through a tropical reef full of fish, sting rays and other mysterious creatures of the deep.

Interacting with sea creatures kind of a “No, No” for you? Don’t worry; there are plenty of exhibits that keep you safe, allowing for observation of the animals in their natural habitat while you stay behind the safety of a glass wall. And, any information you need, whether it’s educational or about the premise, trainers and employees are always available to answer your questions and assist you.

It’s a great place with even greater experiences. Give the beach a break and go check them out while you’re in Miami.

Neighborhood Fish Farm

Not trying to spend cash on a ticket to the Seaquarium? That’s okay. The Neighborhood Fish Farm gives you a more mellow and peaceful experience than all the interactivity at the Seaquarium. Known as the best place to fill your personal aquarium with beautiful creatures, the Fish Farm also allows patrons to walk their gorgeous premises and admire their aquarium fish, pond fish, and aquatic plants. This isn’t your standard aquarium experience, but it’s a nice thing to do if you’re not looking for too much stress and just want to hang out with your family for a few hours. You and your spouse can hold hands and enjoy the surroundings, while the kids peek at the astonishing little fish that occupy one of the Fish Farm’s concrete basins.

3. Grapeland Water Park

Now we’re talking. Water parks are the bread and butter I go to on every vacation I take. They have more appeal than the beach, mainly because you can get soaked and have fun all while not getting sand everywhere.

Grapeland Water Park is one of Miami’s best. They have a wide array of pools and slides and a lazy river that will help you calm down after having loads of fun throughout the park. Plus, it’s rather inexpensive for everything you’ll experience, and they have annual passes for those who know they’ll be coming back for more. Beaches are great and free, most of the time, but you can get the same amount of water, sunshine, and joy from a few hours at Grapeland Water Park. What about food and refreshments? Sadly, Grapeland doesn’t allow outside food or drink, but they do have concessions available for your refreshment needs.

Grapeland is an awesome alternative if your kids are a little tired of the beach. The colorful design and loads of fun things to do will brighten their vacation and keep the memories generating. Go check Grapeland out!

4. Miami Children's Museum

Miami has quite a few museums and educational opportunities, but nowhere does it like the Miami Children’s Museum.

A gift shop waits at the end of your journey, where the kids can pick up some toys and souvenirs reminiscent of the cool experiences they enjoyed throughout the day. The best way to describe the experience is educational. Every one of the Museum’s 17 exhibits makes learning easy and fun for kids, and I guarantee the parents will walk away with new knowledge as well. Each exhibit has a different theme that stretches from Ocean Odyssey to Health & Wellness Center to Safety Zone to the outdoor exhibits. There is a lot to do, and a lot the entire family can enjoy. The Museum does have memberships available, giving members great deals and passes to events, and residents of Florida get $4 off their ticket price.

So, if you’re happy your kid is having a great vacation, but you want to exercise their brains with a little education while you’re in Miami, give them a fun and educational dose of excellence by bringing them to Miami’s Children’s Museum. You won’t be disappointed.

5. Jumpin' Jamboree

A place where parents can relax and the kids can still have fun. Jumpin’ Jamboree may widen your eyes with its eye-popping, colorful design, and its friendliness and safety will kick any stresses out of the door.

This playground is full of sitting areas and inflatable trampolines, castles, and jungle gyms, which allow the kids to waste energy and get some excellent exercise. These inflatable monstrosities make me want to kick off my shoes and jump on them myself, but these days I’d rather just hang out while the kids do the jumping for me.

It’s the perfect place to have a birthday party, with party rooms and deals that will entice your wallets. And, they now have two locations, with the Doral location being closer to Downtown Miami, so if one is too crowded for your little one, the other isn’t too far of a commute.

With this much action going on, your kids are going to get hungry. Jumpin’ Jamboree has a concession area, offering options like chips, pizza, hot dogs, ice cream, and for the parents… coffee. Have a hot cup to pick you up while you relax and the kids have fun.

This place is a great change of pace for any vacation, and the fact that the parents can chill out for an hour or two and let the kids tire themselves out, it might be just what you need if the hot Miami sun has drained you too much.

Remember, there are two locations:

Address: 600 NW 97th Avenue, Suite 1, Doral FL 33178
Phone: (305) 599-3288

Address: 4001 SW 152nd Avenue, #4057, Kendall, FL 33185
Phone: (786) 420-2420

Trampoline High

Another indoor park, but this one is geared more towards older children. It’s not that young children couldn’t have fun here, but I know how parents can worry when it comes to trampolines. Have no fear, though. Trampoline High’s trampolines are safer than any residential product out there, plus they have an extensive list of rules & regulations that will keep your children safe and your mind at ease.

Also a great place for a birthday party or any celebration, it’s not just a warehouse full of trampolines where you pay money to bounce around. Sure, they have Open Jump options, which allow you to do just that, but they also have trampoline basketball courts, dodgeball courts, and bungee trampoline, adding diversity to your kid’s experience.

I never had a trampoline growing up, parents thought they were too dangerous, but whenever I snuck over to a friend’s house for an awesome trampoline session, I always had fun. This is the utopia of Trampolines, and it’s done in the safest and most honest fashion you can do so. If you’re in Miami, give your skin a break from the sun and go have some fun at Trampoline High.

Address: 12395 SW 130th Street #111, Miami, FL 33186
Phone: (786) 233-8381

For this list, I didn’t put the many beaches and parks that surround and sprinkle throughout the wonderful city. Mainly because those are the well-acknowledged venues you know are available to you during your stay. I wanted to go a little bit deeper, but not overload you with locations and things to do at the same time.

Sure, Miami might be know for its nightlife, yet a great family vacation can be had in this Florida City. You don’t have to go to Orlando and Disney World and Universal, where you’ll pay mountains of dollars for an excellent experience, to have fun in Florida. Miami is just as beautiful and just as diverse. Nothing can beat Disney World, I agree, but nothing can beat Miami, Florida. I guarantee.
