Don't Leave SoCal Without Trying Our Favorite Food in San Clemente

When you come to visit South California, stop by San Clemente to taste some of the best food in SoCal!

A trip to Southern California or SoCal is one worth taking for people who love the beach, sun, surfing and adventure. San Clemente in between Los Angeles and San Diego adds one more thing to love about SoCal: food! See our list of great places for food in San Clemente that are our absolute favorites:

Linguini at Pierside Kitchen + Bar

Right near the water, Pierside Kitchen + Bar is located in San Clemente’s downtown area. It’s open from 11am on weekdays and 9am on weekends until 11pm from Sunday to Thursday and 1am on Friday and Saturday. Pierside has a great selection of food and drinks, with items like chili-rubbed tiger prawns, free range chicken breast schnitzel, and a long list of original cocktails on its menu.

The restaurant is known for serving meals made up of fresh and local ingredients, and its shrimp linguini proves just that. Expertly made, the linguini is one of our favorites because of the fresh shrimp and tomatoes as well as the creamy sauce. The pasta itself was cooked well, and that just adds to our great experience in Pierside.

Aside from the food, Pierside is a must when in San Clemente because of its view. Although there’s not much seating available outside, getting a table right around sunset will show you just why Pierside is one of the locals’ favorite restaurant-slash-bars.

The Burger at The Riders Club Café

The menu at The Riders Club Café (open from 11:30am to 9pm from Tuesday to Saturda) on El Camino Real is quite simple and straightforward, but don’t let that fool you. Its burger was actually voted as the “Best Burger of San Clemente” in the San Clemente Times People’s Choice Awards and is recognized as one of the best in the whole Orange County area.

Customers who order The Burger can choose from different meats (or veggie alternatives), cheese and extras such as bacon and egg. Other items on the menu are hot dog, chili dog, carnitas sandwich and club salad.

The Burger with natural beef is definitely our favorite thing to order at The Riders Club Café. Topped with cheddar cheese and some bacon, The Burger is a classic order made special with the best ingredients available. Though the potato chips it comes with aren’t all that special and the space is a bit small, The Burger itself just makes it really worth it to pass by San Clemente when we’re in the area.

Gamberino at Rocco’s

With various European and Latin dishes, Rocco’s is a spot near the highway that is ideal to visit for people hungry for dinner on their way to and from San Diego and Los Angeles. There are thirty items on the menu, including ahi tartar and a variety of risotto, and the restaurant is open from 5pm to 10pm, although they do open at 10am on Sunday.

The restaurant’s Gamberoni Italiani is one of our favorite seafood dishes. The lemon butter sauce is delicious, and the jumbo shrimp is perfectly cooked and filling. At first glance, it might be a simple dish, but it takes great technique and skill to make it as tasty as it actually is.

The restaurant is spacious and bright, and whether you’re on a romantic trip or on one with your family, Rocco’s is a comfortable stop. The customer service provided by the staff and even the owner is excellent, and their friendliness and hospitality combined with the great food shows visitors what they can expect from San Clemente.

Burritos at SC Café

Did someone say all-day breakfast? SC Café (also on El Camino Real) is open from 7am to 2pm everyday, serving items like The Pancake Sandwich , chilaquiles and Carne Asada with eggs. If you want to see (or taste) comfort food done right, head on over to this homey café.

Imagine a burrito with eggs, beans and cheese, and you’ve just thought of our favorite item on SC Café’s menu. Two of these burritos on one plate served with a super tasty sauce and perfect hash browns make the Breakfast Burritos, which is part of the café’s Baja Breakfasts. The serving is actually quite large, so you can share it with someone, but it’s so good that you might not want to.

The café is small, and you can expect your orders to be fast as well as your server to be friendly and accommodating. It’s also quite well-known among locals, so be ready for a lot of people in the café if you’re passing by on a weekend.
