Learn How to Surf
Have you always wanted to learn how to ride a wave? Or maybe you’ve surfed before but need a refresher? Well, you can make the most out of your visit to San Diego and get lessons in Carlsbad. Two of the most popular providers of surfing instruction are SoCal Surf Lessons and Whitlock Surf Experience. For both companies, you can book in advance or ask for a session on the day itself. They offer lessons year round.
At Whitlock Surf Experience, a two-hour lesson (including the instructor, surfboard and wetsuit) costs $99 for one person, $85 each for two people and $75 each for three or more people. At SoCal Surf Lessons, the two-hour lesson costs $95 for one person, $80 each for two people, $70 each for three people, $60 each for four to seven people and $50 each for a larger group.
Both groups have great and experienced instructors who are patient with beginners, and surfing is definitely a great way to spend a day out in the water. It does require physical exertion, but it’s not a requirement to be especially fit to participate.

Go Paddle Boarding
If surfing doesn’t seem like your thing, then maybe you will enjoy paddle boarding. Stand up paddle boarding (SUP) lessons in flatwater are available from 2 Stand Up Guys at $100 each for up to six people for an hour or $135 each for an hour and a half. Discounts are available for larger groups. The same company offers stand up paddle surfing instruction for $135 per person for 75 minutes. If you already feel confident on a paddle board, Carlsbad Lagoon rents out boards at $30 for hour and $50 for two hours.
The sport has grown in popularity in recent years, and travelers looking to try out something new will find it relaxing. It’s also a great way to explore Carlsbad Lagoon where you and your group can find even more fun water activities like kayaking and wakeboarding.
