9 Fun Activities to Try in Hollywood at Night
If you really want to experience Hollywood in all of its glory, you should definitely pop by after sundown because that’s when the most fun happens!
Hollywood is known to be one of the most glamorous places in America. And while it is brimming with all sorts of fun activities for everyone all day long, there’s just something about Hollywood during the night that gives it an even more fun and fabulous vibe. Whether you’re looking for something fun, wild, crazy, adventurous, laid back, or educational to do, there will always be something for you in Hollywood. If you really want to experience Hollywood in all of its glory though, you should definitely pop by after sundown because that’s when the most fun happens! Here are 8 fun activities to try in Hollywood at night.
1. Check out the skies and the stars using the Griffith Observatory telescopes
You don’t have to be a nerd to appreciate the stars and the moon on a crisp, clear night. If you’re looking for something fun but laidback, this stop is definitely for you. On days when the observatory is open, the telescopes are free for the public to use until 09:45 PM (PST). First-timers need not worry because there are friendly telescope demonstrators around that are always willing to help you make the most out of your experience. Early birds may also enjoy a planetarium show / lecture in the afternoon while waiting for the perfect time to view the night sky.
2800 E Observatory Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90027, United States
Tuesdays to Fridays 12:00 NN to 10:00 PM
Saturdays and Sundays 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
2. Enjoy a movie
What’s the difference between seeing a movie in Hollywood at night than anywhere else, you ask? A lot. That’s what. Nothing beats the feeling of satisfaction you get from seeing a movie from one of the grand Hollywood movie palaces and though the admission fee might be a little bit on the steeper end, it’s surely worth every penny. Grab your smartphone and get on whatever app it is that you use to check out what’s showing where and find out what movies you can see from the Vista Theatre on Sunset Boulevard. Other great places to see a movie in Hollywood are TCL (formerly Grauman’s) Chinese Theater, The Egyptian Theatre and the El Capitan which is a fantastic place to watch Disney flicks if you have kids with you.

3. Walk on Hollywood Boulevard
Sure, you can do this one during the day but it’s just so much more fun to experience it at night when all the neon lights and signs are on and everyone is lively and giddy and the place is buzzing with people from all walks of life. If you love people-watching in particular, this is definitely one of the best spots to do so.
4. Be a part of the Jimmy Kimmel Live audience
Love watching Jimmy Kimmel Live at home? Why not be a part of the audience and actually watch it live as it happens? It’s free and so much more entertaining than watching it from your TV. You might want to plan this one in advance, though, because tickets go pretty quick. Reserve tickets as soon as you have your travel dates confirmed. Better yet, if you’re coming down to Hollywood specifically to see the show, try to get a ticket first before booking a flight.

If you’ve seen a Cirque de Soleil show before and enjoyed it, this one should blow your mind. Using Hollywood and its movies as inspiration, the creators of the show promise to deliver nothing but the best eye popping costumes, stunning backdrops, innovative cinematic effects and jaw-dropping acts. Unlike the travelling show, the Cirque de Soleil IRIS is permanently staged at the Dolby Theater so if you never seem to catch CdS on tour, this is your chance to see it though the acts are a little different here than that of what is done on tour.

7. Catch a cemetery screening
It doesn’t matter that it’s not exactly Halloween during your time of visit to Hollywood. You can still get your spook fix by visiting the Cinespia Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Surprisingly, watching a flick on a projector screen in a cemetery is more relaxing and romantic than it is scary and spooky. You can even bring in your own grub and booze and have a picnic with friends and family under the stars while enjoying the big screen. Another surprising thing about Cinespia Cemetery screenings is that the audio visual quality here is amazing. Unlike most other outdoor movies, you’ll actually be able to really enjoy the movie that’s being shown. Some even find it better to catch a movie here than in the cinemas.
Amazing movie lineup, fun crowd, great location – all these and more make the Cinespia Cemetery ‘cinema’ a must try when in Hollywood.

8. See a magic show at the Magic Castle
If you’re a fan of magic, you’ll love the Magic Castle. While roaming the castle grounds and touring the castle itself is already something to be giddy about, what will really make your night are the magic shows. There are five different shows that you can choose from and these are performed in three different showrooms. Dinner is also served in three seatings every evening and the food is absolutely delightful.
The Magic Castle is exclusive for the members of The Academy of Magical Arts. This members-only club requires you to be a member or a friend/relative of a member of the club to get in. If you’re neither of the two, don’t worry. There’s one other little known way to get in the Magic Castle and that is by staying at the nearby Magic Hotel or the Hollywood Hills Hotel. Guests from these places get a pass for the exclusive Magic Castle.
The dress code at the Magic Castle is also pretty strict. Guys are expected to be in coats and ties and ladies in cocktail dresses or skirt suits or pantsuits with matching jackets so definitely make space for these items in your luggage when planning on going to the Magic Castle.

If you’ve done it all and you still have tons of energy to spend, spend it dancing and partying! There are plenty of places to hit up for a good night in Hollywood. There are mega clubs like Lure, Sound Night Club and the Playhouse Night Club for the hard core party lovers and there are also milder, more relaxed clubs like Next Door Lounge, the Alibi Room and The Well serving up food and booze in a slightly more chill setting for those who are looking for something low-key and laidback.
For those who want the full Hollywood nightlife experience, joining the LA Club Crawl is highly recommended. This is a guided tour that allows you to visit several different bars and clubs and enjoy free drinks, specials and more including a VIP experience like no other, thanks to experienced hosts and guides whose mission is to make your night nothing short of perfect and epic. This is a great tour to go on if you’re visiting Hollywood with lots of party-loving friends. For more information, tickets and reservations, you can visit their website at http://laclubcrawl.com/
Make the most of your Hollywood visit by planning your trip well. Make reservations and buy tickets in advance where possible so as not to be disappointed when you get there. If you’re planning on going out at night at a touristy spot like Hollywood, try to keep it low-key. Though the area is generally safe at night, you still want to make sure you don’t attract any ill-willed individual to come at you.
