Your Guide to Spending a Romantic Valentine's Day in San Francisco
Don't just go to San Francisco, when you get there, be sure to express your love to that special person in one or more of these ways on Valentine's Day.
In less than 22 days, everyone will be celebrating Valentine's Day and you probably feel a little left out since you are yet to figure out: where you will be or what can you do. This article will remove all your fears by providing you with a variety of options. These include, but are not limited to, romantic dinners, going on a cruise or attending a free event in the most romantic city- San Francisco.
One of the most traditional ways of spending Valentine’s Day is by going out for a romantic dinner. Nonetheless, I am sure you want to experience something new each time you eat. These two restaurants are sure to give you a different dining experience from that which you’re accustomed to.
Twenty Five Lusk
Known as one of San Francisco's most exquisite restaurants, Twenty-five Lusk, offers a very unique menu combined through contemporary American cuisine. They also have a bar lounge which is highly spoken of. The choice's of cocktail is another great feature. Hence, if you decide to have dinner on Valentine's Day- in a restaurant- this makes the perfect place.

When I think of a pillow fight, the only thing that comes to mind is growing up when my sister’s and I use to fight lol. A possible thing to do on Valentine’s Day was everything but what I would have thought of. However, after seeing so many fun videos and after reading a ton of five star reviews, I had to include this activity on the list. Plus, it is FREE (one of my favorite things… sort of lol).
Hundreds of people gather each year in San Francisco, just to have a pillow fight on Valentine’s Day. From what I’ve seen, it appears to be incredibly fun. It would also be a perfect time to release all that built up anger you’ve probably had about something your spouse did- Hahaa! I’m joking but I would love to experience something so different and fun.
Furthermore, if you are unable to make this event in San Francisco, you could have your own Pillow Fight moment back home. Whether on a girls’ night or a couple’s game night. It could even just be you and your spouse or maybe include your kids, if you already have a family. Just don’t use a well stuffed pillow that could cause any unintentional injury.
Take a look at the videos below and see for yourself what some of the years have been like.

Local Tastes of the City Valentine’s Tour
It can be hard getting around San Francisco or any other big city on your own. Some may say, get a local tour guide but even then you might still not be able to afford it. I have a solution. Another great way to spend Valentines morning or day is by taking up a three-hour tour that allows you to go behind the scenes and learn about making your own chocolate at home.
You also get an opportunity to enjoy all the available food (which is more than chocolate); in addition to having coffee brewed and made right before your eyes. This one of a kind event is looked forward to yearly by couples and more and more persons are joining in on Valentine’s day. It is also very affordable when compared to what is included in the package- unlimited food, roses, gift, award winning chocolate, and experiencing a different side of San Francisco through North Beach and Little Italy’s history.
One of the things I like most about this tour is that it goes right throughout February, and what this means is that, if you want to spend your Valentine’s Day doing something else but still want to add this touch of romance before you leave San Francisco, you can do it!
Below I have also included a recent video done by the ABC7 news channel and aired during their “On Your Side” segment. Be sure to watch.
Location: San Francisco, CA*
Phone: (415) 665-0480
Tour Times: Every day during the month of February at either 10:00 am or 2:00pm.
Cost for Tour: $59

Castro Hosts One of Its Largest Showing of AIDS Memorial Quilt
While Valentine’s Day is mostly associated with the expression of an intimate love between couples, the act of Love is much bigger than our personal relationships. In fact, if you have never seen the importance of showing love to your children, parents or any other individual whom you love- besides your spouse- in a little extra special way, this Valentine’s Day makes a good first. We can use our day to remind our spouses we love them and we can also use it to show love to special groups in society. One such group are persons who have died as a result of AIDS.
Each year, the family and friends of those individuals come together in a joint initiative to conduct a memorial on their behalf. This foundation has assisted so many individuals across North America and to date remains the “largest community art project across the world” since 1989 (http://www.aidsquilt.org/).
The AIDS Memorial Quilt Foundation is known beyond just having a “memorial”. If you ask me, “the Quilt has redefined the tradition of quilt-making in response to contemporary circumstances. A memorial, a tool for education and a work of art, the Quilt is a unique creation, an uncommon and uplifting response to the tragic loss of human life (http://www.aidsquilt.org/).
Maybe you are unable to attend this particular function, that’s okay. I do hope though that you will consider doing something outside the box on the next Valentine’s Day. Even just to donate and help someone else to show love to hurting members of society. They also have countless number of souvenir items for you to take back home.
Location: 2278 Market Street, San Francisco, CA 94114
Date & Time: “The primary Market Street exhibition will be open to the public free of charge from 12 to 8 p.m. A traditional unfolding ceremony will be held at 12 p.m. on Feb. 12, during which a traditional “reading of the names” of those memorialized will take place” (http://www.sanfrancisco.travel/)

Regardless of the name, “Shakespeare didn’t write these stories — but you’ll think he did! Every night a completely new, feature-length story improvised in the style and language of The Bard. A final unique but romantic and inspiring way to spend the afternoon before Valentine’s Day is through the viewing of an animated movie on Saturday which allows you to “contemplate infatuation and its aftermath in this cinematic celebration of love in all its guises. These family-friendly animations and short films creatively frame the relationships that define our lives, from the familial to the romantic” (http://www.exploratorium.edu/).
