Your Guide to the Best Bars In Hollywood

Your Guide to the Best Bars In Hollywood

Want to find a bar in Hollywood? There are so many different choices in Tinsel Town and here are some of the very best!

Where do you go when you want to find a great bar in Hollywood? There is a huge choice of places from dive bars, to cocktail lounges, wine bars to a craft beer fans paradise. Whatever you are looking for you will find it somewhere in Hollywood. Here is our guide to the very best bars in Hollywood.

Library Bar

The Library Bar is located inside the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, right in the heart of Tinsel Town. It is a very small bar located just off the lobby of this iconic Hollywood hotel.

The decor of the Library Bar could best be described as old school classy. A bit like an exclusive British Gentleman's Club. It is dimly lit, with wood paneled walls, and comfy leather sofas. There really isn't much room to sit down, but you can also take your drink outside to the hotel lobby if you prefer. It is a great place to people watch. This is a place which attracts the Hollywood elite and tourists alike, so you are never sure who you might see here.

The interesting concept of the Library Bar is that you will not find a menu here. You simply tell the bartender the kind of cocktail that you enjoy, and they will create something for you. The cocktail is tailored specifically to your tastes. The very talented bartenders use fresh vegetables, herbs and fruits to create your very own signature cocktail. These fresh ingredients are displayed out on the bar, so you can be inspired to tell the expert mixologists which your favorite flavors are.

A very unique feature of the drinks is the huge block of ice that they put in the glass. This is a fabulous idea, as it cools your drink to just the right temperature, but the ice doesn't melt quickly and water it down. Your drink remains the perfect mix, right to the bottom of the glass.

Each cocktail is priced at $17. This may seem somewhat pricey, but the drinks are very special, and the ambiance of the bar is unique. It is a wonderful place if you really want to impress a date, or if you just want to enjoy some of the very best drinks in Hollywood.

A Hollywood boutique hotel located along the Walk of Fame, across from the Dolby Theatre, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is a stunning destination.

Lost Property Bar

Lost Property Bar is located on the corner of Hollywood and Vine. This place has a very unusual concept. It is decorated with lost property, and if you see something you want you can take it. Yes if you really want that candle it's yours, or if you see a book that takes your fancy, just pick it up and take it home. If you want to leave something for others to take that is fine. If not, that is fine too. It's all good!

The decor is very inviting. It isn't a huge space, but that adds to it's charm. Dark wood paneled walls, leather chairs, subway tile high up on the ceiling, and mirrors on the walls, give the Lost Property Bar a very welcoming feel. It is pretty dark in the bar, with candle light providing a relaxed and welcoming ambiance.

The specialty here is whiskey, but they will make pretty much any cocktail that you can think of. Rhino and Jeremy are the very friendly and talented bartenders, and they make this an exceptional bar experience. A nice feature is that you can buy a bottle and leave it behind the bar to enjoy on your next visit. This is definitely a place where you feel as though you want to return more than once. If cocktails are not your preference, they also have some good beer and wines available.

There are some seats at the bar, and you should definitely try to get a seat there if you want to be entertained by the very welcoming bartenders. Watching them hand craft a cocktail is an experience not to be missed.

The Lost Property Bar does have a food menu. It has simple food such as pizzas and fries. This place really is more about the bar than the food, but it is good to have the option of something to eat if you find yourself wanting a bite to eat.

The Powder Room

The Powder Room is another place that you have to see if you are looking for a great night out in Hollywood. It is a small place with a welcoming atmosphere. There aren't many places where you can enjoy a great cocktail and play a game of Jenga at the same time, but at the Powder Room you can go right ahead!

There is a large projector on the wall which plays videos of old movies. The Powder Room has a bit of a nostalgic feel to it, and definitely has a very relaxed atmosphere.

One of the specialties at the Powder Room is the milkshake. A definite must try if you enjoy creamy cocktails. There is a menu of cocktails, but if you have something in mind that you want, the bartenders will be happy to mix it for you. Cocktails are around the $13 price mark, which is pretty good for Tinsel Town.

What's not to like in a bar that also serves chocolate? The Know Where Bar on Hollywood Boulevard is a friendly place, which serves an excellent choice of wine and beer. The aim to provide a place where friends can kick back, relax and enjoy a drink with friends.

This place is pretty dark. There are candles on the bar which all adds to the ambiance, but don't expect much light in here!

The music is not too loud, and you can still hold a conversation with your bar companions. The sounds are vinyl classics. Lots of records are displayed on shelves around the bar. They also have live music sometimes.

Next Door Lounge

When you step through the doors of the Next Door Lounge you feel as though you have been transported to another era. The Next Door Lounge is very much a modern "speakeasy" bar. In theory you actually have to know the password to even get through the door. However, in these modern times the password is available to anyone who will fill in a form on their website, and given them their email address!

You do need to know where The Next Door Lounge is though, as there is no sign on the door. Just a key symbol. James the door man is dressed in a top hat and spats, just in case you are wondering if you were in the right place. Don't stress if you don't know the password. The door man is friendly and will let you in without it.

The decor creates the feeling that you are in a Hollywood bar in the prohibition era. Exposed brick walls, high ceilings, leather couches, silent black and white movies playing in the background. A live jazz band plays in the bar, adding to the 1920s feel of the place.

If you enjoy your malt you will be most interested in Whiskey Wednesday. This is held every Wednesday at 8 pm. and is a presentation by Head Barman Zac Henry. Guests can learn about whiskey whilst tasting some samples. This is a popular event and reservations, although optional, are advisable.

Now Boarding

If you like fun, themed bars, you will love Now Boarding. This West Hollywood Bar has a 1960s aviation theme. Not too many bars anywhere around that can claim that! This place is a lot of fun. The decor is well done, and surprisingly not too over the top. The huge map on the wall of flight paths is something to keep you amused for a while.

The music isn't too loud, and you can still carry on a conversation. The sounds are from the 1960s and 70s.

There is a great cocktail menu with a choice of 15 different drinks all priced at $14. If you want to upgrade to premium liquor you can do that for a $2 additional charge. You really have to try a Jetsetter to fit in with the surroundings. This is mix of gin, St. Germaine, lime, egg whites and muddled cucumber, all decorated with mint to make it look pretty. Delicious.

If you want to visit this place a lot you can even become a member. You will then get priority access at the weekends, and invitations to private party events. You can even purchase a bottle and put it away in the members only lockers. The price of membership? It's $600 so you better be sure you are going to be here a lot!

If you want to feel as though you have stepped back in time to the Golden Age of Hollywood, Harlowe is most definitely the place to be. This West Hollywood bar has simply stunning decor. It is a welcoming place to be with great drinks and excellent food. What more can you ask for?

Harlowe is a very popular place, particularly on weekends. There is a small dance floor, and a DJ plays on the weekend.

The cocktails are delicious, and there is a good choice available. We love the names including Hot For Teacher, Fernaiquiri Swizzle, Cruisin’ The Grapevine, Mexican Firing Squad, and How Do You Like Them Spiced Apples? This place doesn't take itself too seriously, and doesn't care who knows it.

Our favorite has to be the cocktail named, There's Always Money In The Banana Stand. Not quite sure how the classic line from Arrested Development fits into this retro theme, but we think it's a great name anyway!

Harlowe has a huge choice of liquor available. If you enjoy whiskey and brandy you will be very happy here. They also have a relatively small selection of beer and wine.

The Happy Hour Menu is a great value, and is available every day from 5 pm. until 8 pm. Food choices include Mary’s Fried Chicken Strips for $6 , Fried Calamari for $7, Simple Green Salad for $7, and Roasted Vegetables for $5. The dessert is Raspberry and Orange Crumble which is available for just $5.

Happy Hour drinks are also very well priced. House White or Red Wine is available for $6 per glass, Draught Beers have $2 off, and Fountain Cocktails are $8.

Food is served from 5 pm until 11 pm every day. The menu is not huge, but you are sure to find something that you like. If you want something pretty hearty why not try the Baked Meatballs for $11? These are made from pork and beef, and served with a San Marzano sauce, garlic confit, buratta cheese, and spinach. Mary’s Fried Chicken Strips for $9 are also very tempting. A specialty is the Steak Frites for $19. If you enjoy steak you will love the combination of Rib Eye, chimichurri, and rosemary butter all served with crispy fries.

If you want something a little different for dessert you can sample the Persimmon Pie for $10. This delicious pie has a Cinnamon crust ,and is served with lemon cream.

Harlowe has a very interesting menu called Boozy Floats. Dessert and alcohol combined. What a wonderful idea! Choices include a Classy Lady which is lemon sorbet with Altos Blanco Tequila, Velvet Falernum, Harlowe’s own pineapple soda, and flavored with rosemary. We have to say that the Floats M’goats for $14 sounds like a rather strange combination, but we guess it works for some! This is goat cheese ice cream, Fords gin, all mixed with Harlowe’s special blueberry sage soda. You can also satisfy your Inner Child for $10 with a rather boozy version of a root beer float!

Piano Bar

The Piano Bar, as the name would suggest, really is primarily about the music. It is a great place to relax and enjoy a live band. This menu is pretty small, but the cocktails are good. It does get crowded on a Saturday night, so arrive early if you want to get in.

Happy Hour is definitely the time to go with Well Drinks, Beer and Wine offered for just $4. The Bottle of the Day is a very reasonable $3.

The Cocktail menu is simple, but the drinks are well made and very reasonably priced for this location. Maybellene, Crescendo and French 75 are priced at $9 each. Sazerac and Old Fashioned are $10. Beer on tap is $6, bottled beer is $5 for domestic, and $6 for imported.

Happy Hour Appetizers are just $5 per plate with a choice of Loaded Potato Skins, Hollywood Wings, Sliders and the B and C Salad. Meatballs on the Boulevard are a very popular choice and can be made with a choice of pork, beef or veggies. The sauce options are marinara, white cheddar, pesto, gravy, or bbq.

The regular food menu is small, but you will find something you want to eat here from the choice of American classics. There is a good choice of burgers which include the Ball and Chain Classic for $11, the Smokey Burger for $12, and the Bourbonator for $13. If you want a slightly healthier burger you can opt for the SoCal which has grilled chicken and smoked cheddar served on ciabatta for $11. This is a Hollywood restaurant so there has to be quinoa somewhere on the menu. Here you will find it in the Veggie Burger for $12.

Choices of side include Brussels Sprouts for $8, Mac and Cheese for $8, Loaded Potato Skins for $8, and Onion Rings for $7. A fun option is the Giant Salted Pretzel for $10.

Covell is a must if you enjoy excellent wine. They are pretty unique, as they offer very high quality wines, but do not have a wine list. There are over 150 carefully selected wines available, all by the glass. Co owner Matthew Kaner doesn't want to offer a huge wine list, as he believes that customers should not have to waste their time looking over one and carefully choosing something, to then be told that their choice is sold out. It is a unusual concept, but a welcome one. This is one of the best wine bars in town. Kaner certainly knows his wine. He was named by Food and Wine Magazine as one of their Sommeliers of the Year.

The excellent wines are offered alongside a high quality food menu. Small Plates include Olives and Almonds for $5, Tater Tots with Heinz 57 Sriracha for $6, and a Mozzarella Salad for $10.

Cheese and Charcuterie is the perfect choice to enjoy with a glass of wine. There is a good selection of cheese options including Purple Haze, Mobay, Saint Agur Blue, and Beemster XO Gouda. If you prefer charcuterie you can select Angel's Black Truffle Salami, Angel's Berkshire Lonzino, and La Espanola Pamploma Chorizo. A plate with one choice is $6, three are $15, or you could have five for $25.

If you would prefer something cooked you can order a Croque Monsieur or Provencal for $12. A Tuna Melt is $15, and a classic Mac and Cheese is $9.

If you still have room for dessert you have a choice of Pot du Creme au Chocolat or Croissant Bread Pudding. These are both available for $7 each.
