All across the USA, from the 50s to today, the countryside has been riddled with local Mom and Pop hamburger joints. It’s part of the essence of Americana. Dan’s Hamburgers is a local staple in that genre. Dan’s has been family owned and operated since it began in 1973. They have 5 locations scattered around Austin and Buda. They serve all day long from breakfast to dinner and though their menu may not be huge, they are certainly not lacking in flavor. For decades, Dan’s has prided themselves with selling wholesome, made to order, fresh food with high attention to quality and detail. No prepackaged food used here! Their chicken fried steaks and onion rings are hand battered. The vegetables are chopped fresh. Even the eggs are bought from a local hatchery! The quality of the food packs a flavorful punch and will quickly make Dan’s a repeat stop. It’s no wonder it has been a favorite local haunt for decades.

Buda is home to one of the most unique coffee bars in the area. Summermoon doesn’t just serve any old coffee, they hand brew their own special wood-fired blends on site. All of their blends have a charming fire themed name and are a true testament to the time honored methods of coffee roasting from the 19th century. Using no electricity or gas, they manually work the beans as they roast in a hand built brick hearth. Over the years, with experience, ingenuity, and creativity, Summermoon has come to produce some of the best tasting coffees in Texas. This coffee bar is a must for any coffee aficionado.

This little establishment may look like just another bar, but Super Slicks is one of the best new Tex-Mex restaurants to come along in a long time. This isn’t your ordinary Tex-Mex either. The owner has had over a decade of experience in the restaurant business and it shows with Slick’s prime selection of one of a kind (and traditional) Tex-Mex food and drinks. Their list of unique spins on classic cocktails is a favorite for happy hour. They also host live music from time to time as well. Buda, TX 78610

As I mentioned, Buda is the Outdoor Capital of Texas, so to round out this list of Buda’s favorite local eats, it would be unfair of me to leave out the restaurant with the best outdoor eating area. Willie’s Joint Bar & BBQ serves up some of the best pit BBQ in the area in a great, family-friendly, and fun environment. The patio is large enough to host games for those fun-loving seekers too, like a giant version of beer pong (using volley balls and trash cans), jumbo jenga, and a bean bag toss. The full bar serves a huge selection of beer and liquor. Their food entrees boast celebrity names such as the Johnny Cash (BBQ pizza), Jimi Hendrix (Frito Pie), and even the Stevie Ray Vaughn (Pulled Pork Taco with Pineapple Coleslaw) to keep it fun and unique. Not just your average bar, Willie’s is a great place to hang out and have some fun.

From Thai to pie, Buda has something to offer every appetite. It’s easy to see why people travel from as far away as Houston and Dallas to eat here.
