Don’t Miss These Tybee Island Restaurants

Dine out in true beach style at these excellent Tybee Island restaurants on your next trip to this popular Georgia vacation destination.

Tybee Island (sometimes called Savannah Beach) is located off the coast of Savannah, Georgia, and has become a popular vacation destination in the Southeastern United States. When planning a trip to Savannah, many vacationers choose to stay on Tybee Island and drive into the city so that they can experience the best of both worlds. Of course, it is a little more difficult to find great restaurants on the island than it is in the city! On your next trip to Tybee Island, keep these delicious restaurants in mind, so you and your family will never wind up looking for food at the last minute.

The Crab Shack

The Crab Shack brought life to Tybee Island over two decades ago, when it opened up on the site of what was previously a fishing camp with a tiny store. The owners began serving dinners on Fridays and Saturdays, but the popularity of these home-cooked meals grew in no time, and soon they were offering food all day long, every day of the week. Stop in The Crab Shack and enjoy the perfect blend of Southern-style comfort food and beach eats that will please the whole family!

Grab a bowl of Brunswick stew to start off your meal. This hearty soup is packed with pork, chicken, and sausage with tomato broth and veggies. It’s a great way to fill up after a day out on the beach! For your main course, sample the deviled crab plate, made with locally-caught blue crab, or opt for the shrimp and deviled crab combo to get a little of both. Obviously, The Crab Shack specializes in crab dishes, but you can also find oysters and crayfish on the menu here.

The Crab Shack is located at 40 Estill Hammock Road.

Bernie's Oyster House

Visit Bernie’s Oyster House to enjoy one of the most popular restaurants in the Savannah area! This restaurant is paired with a bar, which gives it a relaxed atmosphere that works well for family meals in the earlier evening and beach parties later at night. Known for having some of the best service on the island, Bernie’s Oyster House is located right on the main stretch, making it easy to get to again and again during your stay. This tasty restaurant serves up fresh, delicious seafood at affordable prices, and it draws in locals and tourists in big crowds on a regular basis.

The main draw of Bernie’s Oyster House is the oyster bar, where you can choose a half dozen, full dozen, or bucket of half-shell local oysters to shuck and enjoy. This is also a great place to grab a fried shrimp po’ boy, or try the oyster variation of this traditional Southern sandwich instead. There are a few non-seafood items on the menu as well, including a delicious burger and a tasty barbecue pulled pork sandwich, both of which are great choices for anyone in your party who may not like fish very much. No matter what you order, don’t forget the hush puppies!

Bernie’s Oyster House is located at 13 16th Street.

Fannies on the Beach

Beachfront dining definitely has its own vibe, and it is usually quite different from any other eating experience in any other type of restaurant. Fannies on the Beach fits the beach eats description perfectly, from its relaxed but quirky atmosphere to its family-like group of employees who provide service with a smile. Although the restaurant is tiny, and most of the seating is outdoors, it is usually packed with people enjoying the food and the live music that takes place on a regular basis at this popular beach restaurant.

Drop in for a beer and some coconut shrimp or calamari in sweet chili sauce to finish off the perfect late-night beach evening, or bring the whole family by for dinner instead. Try the grilled mahi tacos with black bean and corn salsa, or chow down on a huge plate of delicious fried shrimp. Fannies on the Beach may be a fish restaurant, but it also serves some of the best pizzas on Tybee Island, with made from scratch crusts and fresh ingredients that will keep the kids in your group very happy. Try the scallop and bacon pizza for something different, or go for a traditional Hawaiian. No matter which you choose, you’ll be treated to freshly made, stone baked pizzas that will make your trip to the island that much more memorable.

Fannies on the Beach is located at 1613 Strand Avenue.
