Since 1978, La Fogata has been known for their margaritas, Mexican food, and award winning salsa. Some of the La Fogata staff, including some of the cooks, have been on this restaurant’s team since its doors opened in 1978. The members of the La Fogata team make this restaurant special because of their dedication to provide exquisite flavors and quality dishes. At La Fogata you will find hearty and traditional Mexican foods such as green enchiladas, tortilla soup, nachos, ceviche, and rice and beans. Many of their recipes have successfully thrived on the menu since the beginning days of La Fogata. For a traditional Mexican breakfast experience, visit The Original Blanco Cafe. This cafe offers two locations, with my favorite being in downtown San Antonio on St Mary’s Street. This cafe likes to provide great food and an affordable price, within a short waiting time. While The Original Blanco Cafe provides an exceptional lunch menu, the breakfast menu is just phenomenal! The chilaquiles are not to be missed along with the huevos rancheros, machacado plate, and migas. Founded by Alejandro F San Miguel in 1974, The Original Blanco Cafe aims to provide its guests with homemade recipes and great customer service.

For a healthy spin on Mexican food, visiting Vegeria will cure your Mexican craving without the excessive calories. Vegeria has an exclusively vegan and gluten free menu, making it one of the healthiest Mexican eateries in San Antonio. If you’re craving nachos but want to skip all of the calories that come with the cheese and meat, opt for the super human nachos that are made with vegan protein and vegan pepperjack cheese. Enchiladas, tacos, tostadas, and other traditional Mexican favorites are all made with a vegan twist at Vegeria. I highly recommend going on a Saturday for the buffet so that you can try various dishes and choose your favorite. Vegeria has two locations that you can visit, with the most popular being the Broadway location. Stop into this eatery for a guilt free treat.

Los Barrios is the longest running of three restaurants that the Barrios family has successfully maintained for decades. The family friendly and festive ambiance that Los Barrios offers its customers has been a primary key in the long running success of this establishment. The food has been the other aspect that has kept customers coming back regularly. Los Barrios prides itself as being a family oriented restaurant. With dining options available such as buffets and platters, this restaurant will provide plenty of food for the entire family at a reasonable cost. If you are coming alone or in a small group, the a la carte menu gives you plenty of delectable options, including empanadas, tamales, and the infamous puffy taco that was showcased on the Food Network with Bobby Flay. The menu includes very tasty and traditional Mexican foods that Acenar has put a modern spin on, including quesadillas and flautas.
