La Jolla Events to Consider When Planning Your Trip

La Jolla Events to Consider When Planning Your Trip

Not sure what to do in La Jolla? Check out these events the next time you're visiting "The Jewel" of Southern California.

California is a beautiful place, but La Jolla might be the state’s most beautiful city. It’s called “The Jewel” of Southern California for a reason, and you’ll feel like a jewel yourself during your visit. From the first class shopping to its picturesque beaches, La Jolla pleases every visitor and tourist, especially with its annual and special events. Its palm trees and blue oceans are the backdrop to some great charity events, sport events, and marathons.

I suggest everyone to visit California at some point in his or her life. If you want to visit La Jolla, make sure to check out the official website (, where you can find the schedule of their events. Booking your trip during one of these events will add to your vacation and overall experience, so here are five La Jolla events for a once in a lifetime trip.

La Jolla Half Marathon

This is the #2 race in the Half Marathon Triple Crown Series. This charitable race is for competitive runners and anyone who wants to contribute to a good cause. They have pace groups for those who’d rather get in some exercise and enjoy the experience. These groups will lead you through the scenic point-to-point race, and you can choose which pace you’d like to keep up with.

I’m not much of a runner myself, but I am huge when it comes to charities. If I found myself in La Jolla at this time, I’d 100% participate. It’s for a good cause, and the pace groups will make it a great experience instead of an embarrassing one.

You might only visit La Jolla once in your life, so you might as well make things interesting and worthwhile.

Event Date: April 23, 2016

Fourth of July Fireworks

The firework shows in Washington D.C. and New York are always televised, but they should honestly think about filming La Jolla’s fireworks event one year.

Spread out on the beach or grab a spot on the oceanfront, because you do not want to miss this show. Watch beautiful firework orchestrations explode and pop over a crisp, dark blue sky. If you add the ocean and palm trees into the mix, you’ll witness something that truly defines “picturesque.” It’s gorgeous. But, you have to grab your spot early. Many tourists and locals love to watch this event, so getting the perfect spot will only make your experience better.

You might be saying, “Seen one fireworks show; seen them all.” This is not true. If you’ve never seen La Jolla’s Fourth of July event, then you haven’t witnessed greatness.

Event Date: July 4, 2016

Relay for Life of La Jolla - American Cancer Society Event

Here’s another charitable opportunity for you to partake in during your vacation. Usually folks like to shop, eat, and play on a vacation. However, the rewarding sensation you feel after contributing to a charity cannot be matched. Infuse this sensation into your vacation, and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Relay for Life is a 24-hour event, raising funds and awareness the entire time. What people usually do is get a team together and divide the 24 hours into blocks, so the team members can continuously represent their team throughout the entire event. Before the event, the teams go out and try to raise as much money as they can.

You can participate in this anyway you want, though. A simple donation goes a long way, but I suggest participating in the actually Relay for Life walk during your vacation. You’ll be surprised how a little bit of charity can make great things even greater. Plus, we only have one life, so we might as well do as much good as we can.

Event Date: June 11 & 12, 2016

Concours d’Elegance

Here’s an event everyone can enjoy, but those who love cars will get an extra special treat with this one. During one of La Jolla’s most beautiful months, gorgeous and pristine automobiles occupy Scripps Park. Many tourists and locals specifically come to La Jolla once a year for this event. This is once in a lifetime kind of stuff because you never know if you’ll ever see automobiles like this again. Some of the cars expected at this year’s event are a Rolls Royce, Bentley, Bugatti, and Duesenberg.

La Jolla is a gem of a city, but this event here makes it twinkle a little brighter. Make sure to visit int April and make your vacation even more worthwhile.

Event Date: April 8 – 10, 2016

The Farmers Insurance Open

This annual golf tournament lets you see some of the best players from around the world and the best sights La Jolla has to offer. Experience breathtaking views of the ocean and California landscape while watching top players show you why they dominate the sport. This is also a charity event, raising money for local at-risk youth and military families. So, go enjoy some golf and contribute to those in dire need.

A golf tournament is perfect for a vacation. It takes you away from the shops, hotels, and restaurants and gets you into sunshine and beauty. Check this one out at the end of January. You’ll be surprised how exhilarating and wonderful a charity golf tournament can be.

Event Date: January 28 – 31, 2016

There’s a lot more to do in La Jolla than these events. Try everything from the beaches to the restaurants, but the events will help turn your good vacation into a great one. If nothing seems appealing here, then take my word for it and try it anyways. We’ve only got one life, so we might as well enjoy what we can during it.
