Our Favorite Shopping Spots in Buckhead

A guide to the most wide-ranging and classy shopping centers and malls in Atlanta

To borrow a famous catchphrase from the former hit show How I Met Your Mother,

“It’s legend – wait for it – dary!”

This is how the shopping experience in Buckhead is often defined – legendary. Celebrated as the commercial capital of Atlanta and perhaps the whole State of Georgia, Buckhead boasts of millions and millions of square footage of premier retail spaces.

Buckhead is oftentimes touted as the ‘Beverly Hills of the East’ or the ‘Beverly Hills of the South’ for its affluent and stylish neighborhood. It is actually the home of one of the first and the largest malls in the country, the Lenox Square that opened its doors in 1959. It also ranked first as the district with the highest concentration of high-end designer boutiques in the United States.

Here is a list of our favorite shopping and entertainment hubs in Buckhead that can offer you hours and hours of retail therapy:

1. Lenox Square

It is the largest shopping center in the Southeastern part of the country with 1,545,000 square feet (140,000sqm.) of retail space. Lenox Square is the Atlanta home of 3 major American department stores – Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, and Neiman Marcus. It also houses the largest Pottery Barn store in the world and the biggest Forever 21 retail shop in the southeastern part of the country.

Lenox Square contains around 250 specialty stores, several of which are upscale retailers that do not have other branches within hundreds of miles from Atlanta. This includes their featured stores like Louis Vuitton, FENDI, Salvatore Ferragamo, Prada, and David Yurman. Other anchor stores solely located in the mall within the district are Bulgari, Burberry, Microsoft, Tesla Motors, J. Crew, Ralph Lauren, Zara, Kiehl’s, Ermenegildo Zegna, Carolina Herrera, and a lot more.

Lenox Square just gets better with age. It went through several expansions and modernization in the past decades to maintain and increase its luster and class. The complex also houses a host of full-service restaurants and cafes for you to relax in and recharge during and after a day of shopping.

Located across from its sister mall Lenox Square, Phipps Plaza provides a regional home for three more major US department store chains – Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Belk. The latter designated this location as one of their four flagship stores. Known for its elegant interior with sparkling chandeliers, glass elevators, and solid marble floors, this ritzy mall in the heart of Buckhead is an epitome of style and sophistication. It houses more than 100 mostly upscale stores scattered in 821,000 square feet (76,300sqm.) of prized retail spaces.

Among Phipps Plaza tenants are global luxury brands such as Tiffany & Co., Gucci, Hugo Boss, Bally, Omega, Giorgio Armani, Versace, Valentino, and Rebecca Taylor. Other famous retail shops in this expansive three-floor complex are Tory Burch, Giuseppe Zanotti, Elie Tahari, Nicole Miller, L.K. Bennett, Hublot, and Agent Provocateur, among others.

This is the latest addition to the ever-growing shopping expanse in Buckhead. The Shops Buckhead Atlanta (TSBA) is not a mega-mall type development but an elaborate remodeling of eight city blocks into a ‘walkable’ retail complex filled with great shopping, entertainment and dining options. The developers are not sparing any expenses to accomplish their ambitious master plan for this place. They even lifted 60-foot tall mature trees for replanting on the site to provide natural canopy on the streets. The complex will have a total of 1.5 million square feet of prime retail spaces upon its completion.

At the present, several upscale stores are already open for business in TSBA. This includes Hermes, Helmut Lang, and Jimmy Choo, as well as Atlanta-bred megabrands Spanx and Etro. You can also check out other high fashion boutiques such as Akris, Bella Bag, Brunello Cucinelli, Christian Louboutin, Jonathan Adler, and a lot more. Other active specialty stores are Warby Parker (eyewear), Vilebrequin (swimwear), Tod’s (Italian shoes), Diptyque (scented candles), and L’Occitane (beauty shop), among others.

TSBA currently offers several dining options with various restaurants already open in the area including a sushi place, a gastro-pub, a cupcake store, an American diner, and a lot more.
