The San Diego Zoo

San Diego Zoo is world famous and a definite must see when you are visiting the area. The zoo is one of the oldest in America, having been established in 1915. The zoo is home to almost 4,000 animals and includes around 650 species.

One very popular feature of the zoo is that is has three Giant Pandas on display - one of only four zoos in the country where you can see these beautiful animals. There are many other types of animals on display, including elephants, tigers, giraffe, koalas, gorillas and polar bears.

The San Diego Zoo is very hilly and there can be a lot of walking involved. You can buy tickets for the bus tour and the aerial tramway which will help you get around the park more easily.

Legoland California

If you have young children and are visiting San Diego, you really need to consider a day trip to Legoland, California. It is located in Carlsbad, about a 45 minute drive from downtown San Diego. Based around the simple Lego brick, this is a great place to spend a day with the kids.

The center of the park is Miniland, USA. Here, you can walk around Lego models depicting cities such as New York, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Washington. There is a relatively new feature which is a large display of Star Wars models and scenes.

There are lots of rides at the park, which are mostly geared towards young children. This is not the place to impress the teenagers in the family - there are no thrill rides here. There is enough to keep the younger ones entertained for the day.

Legoland also has a separate water park and Sea Life Aquarium. You can buy separate or combination tickets for each park. Watch for internet specials on tickets on the Legoland website. Costco sometimes also carries discount tickets.

SeaWorld San Diego is located on Mission Bay, a short drive from downtown. There is something for all ages to enjoy at this aquatic theme park.

The main attraction of SeaWorld is the killer whales (also known as orcas). The Shamu shows have always been very popular and draw crowds to the park every day. You will also see many other species including dolphins, polar bears, walrus, penguins and turtles.

There are lots of attractions to keep you entertained, including the newest addition to the park, Manta; a very smooth roller coaster which twists and turns around the park. Ride the motion simulator Wild Arctic, get drenched on Shipwreck Rapids, or take your chances on Journey to Atlantis.

SeaWorld tickets are available online for the day, multiple days or as an annual pass. If you are staying in the area, check with your hotel for discount packages.

Visit SeaWorld's San Diego California theme park for your next family vacation. Enjoy rides, shows, attractions - and of course, our amazing animals from the sea!

USS Midway, San Diego

The USS Midway Museum is a great place to spend some time when you are visiting downtown San Diego. The Midway was the longest serving aircraft carrier in the US navy, and the entire family will enjoy exploring this "floating city."

You can explore the living quarters, engine rooms and even the ship's jail on the self-guided tour. As you board the ship, you will be given a set of headphones and player for the audio tour. You can go in whichever order you like. There are children's versions, too.

The top deck showcases restored aircraft covering US military history from World War 2 to Operation Desert Storm.

Allow about three hours to see all of the attractions on the tour.
