What is the Best Korean Restaurant in Orlando?
If you are searching for the best Korean food in Orlando, you've come to the right place! Here are some of the best Korean Restaurants in the city.
Korean restaurants are few and far between in Orlando, but there are a handful that stand out. Although it may be difficult to find Korean food in the Orlando area if you do not know where to look, a few restaurants serve delicious, very traditional food that just can’t be beat. Some of the best Korean food in the city is served at Asian fusion restaurants, where you can find a little bit of everything, but the number one Orlando-based Korean restaurant is a completely authentic experience. Check out this list of the best of the best, as well as a couple of great runners-up.
Runner-up: Shin Jung Korean Restaurant
Shin Jung Korean Restaurant has been a part of Orlando’s Korean food scene since the mid-90s, and over the years, it has won many awards for its excellent food and service. This restaurant is well known amongst area locals for being one of the greatest places to get fresh, delicious Korean food with a true, authentic flavor.
Begin your meal at Shin Jung with a kimchi pajun appetizer to whet your whistle. This tasty take on kimchi is a fried egg-based dish filled with the popular Korean treat and onions. Move along to the main dish and select from a wide variety of entrees, including some of the best bibim bap in the city. This dish, comprised of rice, carrots, mushrooms, radishes, zucchini, bean sprouts, beef and a fried egg, is a spicy classic that can be served either sizzling hot or chilled. For an incredibly fun experience, however, try the in-table Korean barbeque. Order your meat raw, and cook it in the built-in fire pit at each of the tables. The beef tongue vegetable mix is a great choice!
Shin Jung Korean Restaurant is located at 1638 East Colonial Drive (Highway 50) in Orlando.
Runner-up: Bee Won Korean Cuisine
On its web site, Bee Won Korean Cuisine makes a point to remind customers that its food is authentic without catering to the tastes of a Western audience. When you want real Korean food that is seasoned to perfection and tastes just like it would if you happened to be eating it overseas, this is place to get it. Bee Won is also an excellent place to enjoy a relaxed meal in a casual atmosphere, unlike many Asian fusion restaurants in the area, which tend to be over-the-top stylish.
Bee Won serves up a handful of chef specialties on the menu that are well worth checking out. Choose jjoo sam to sample perfectly prepared octopus and pork belly topped with vegetables and an exquisite sauce you have to taste to believe. If you prefer something a little more Western as far as ingredients go, try the bossam, which is the same dish made with sliced pork. Or, for a more adventurous meal, sample the agwi jjim, which is a stew-like dish made of monkfish chunks and served with a spicy sauce on top.
Bee Won Korean Cuisine is located at 5100 Doctor Phillips Boulevard in Orlando
Winner: Korea House
Korea House has been repeatedly voted as the best Korean restaurant in Orlando by the Orlando Sentinel. This excellent eatery has been serving authentic Korean food to the people of central Florida for well over three decades, and it prides itself on creating healthy, flavorful dishes made with the finest available ingredients. Because of the popularity of Korea House, they have recently opened a second, smaller location in Longwood. However, if you are staying near the theme parks or in downtown Orlando, the original Colonial Town location is the one you will want to visit, as it is much closer. At either location, you can expect top-notch service and high-quality food unlike any you can find in the area.
Consider starting your meal with an appetizer of yangnyum-dubu, which is a steamed tofu cube topped with soy sauce and scallions. This is an excellent unique way to begin your meal before moving on to the main attraction. Choose palbochae if you want a little surf and turf. This dish comes with seafood, beef, and vegetables stir-fried together and served with white rice. Or, if you prefer to order a meal that two can share, choose a jungol casserole-like dish, which can include kimchi and pork, beef and intestines, seafood and vegetables, or goat and vegetables. Korea House also serves Korean barbeque, but do not come expecting to cook the meat at the table as in a traditional Korean barbeque restaurant. This is prepared in the back, but it is still very delicious. Try the bulgogi for a truly authentic treat.
Korea House is located at 4501 East Colonial Drive (Highway 50) in Orlando.
When you are hit with a craving for Korean food in central Florida, look no further than the best Korean restaurant in Orlando. But of course, if you can’t get there for some reason, there are a couple of great second-place restaurants that are sure to please your palate as well. Whichever you choose, you are in for a great meal! Happy eating!
