Carlsbad California is a delightful tourist attraction located 87 miles south of Los Angeles, and 35 miles north of San Diego. Locals call Carlsbad “The Village by the Sea.” It is a small forgotten tourist destination, worthy of a visit next time one is in the area. Easy to get to, there is something to do for everybody.

One noticeable attraction is Carlsbad Village. Carlsbad Village offers shopping, dining, entertainment, and services guaranteed to satisfy any taste.

If you are close enough to bike, Carlsbad Village is very accommodating to the biker, with bike stations and bike lanes all over the place.

If the train is more to your liking, you have a choice between the local commuter or metrolink, and Amtrak.

Or if your preference is to drive yourself, there is easy access off Interstate 5, exiting at the Carlsbad Village Dr exit, or from the Pacific Coast Highway. There is plenty of parking available.

The best thing about Carlsbad Village, is you have the option of enjoying the best if two worlds. If you tire of shopping and browsing the shops, you also are close enough to the beach, that you can grab a bite to eat before walking down to the beach for a relaxing time in the sand, with the sound if the ocean for background music.

If you choose to stick with shopping, while visiting Carlsbad Village, you have a plethora of choices from the usual convenience stores, to antiques, to books. One interesting place to shop is the Village Faire. Two blocks from the beach, this quaint shopping spot has a New England-style architecture mixed with a Caribbean flare, a perfect atmospheric setting so close to the ocean. You have a delightful choice of over 33 restaurants, shops and services that promises to fill every shopping and entertainment appetite. This shopping center surrounds a fountain courtyard with plenty of benches for relaxing.

I highly recommend the Coyote Bar & Grill, one of Carlsbad’s finest food venues. There is a reasonably priced weekend breakfast every Saturday and Sunday, from 9am – 12pm. During the week, there are lunch specials from 11am – 2pm; as well as a dinner menu, where you have a wide variety of dining choices from sandwiches to full dinner entrees choices, to choose from.

Stay long enough, you will discover why The Coyote Bar & Grill is one of Carlsbad Village’s hottest night spots. There is Karaoke every Monday and Tuesday night from 6 - 10pm, as well as, live bands Wednesday – Saturday nights. There are also Happy hour specials Monday – Friday from 4 – 6pm.

If you are looking to take back a souvenir from your Carlsbad visit, I recommend California Wear. This cute shop has been a favorite destination shopping stop for tourists since 1993. California Wear sells major brand names, as well as its own locally-produced original designs, that are certain to spark wonderful memories long after that California vacation is over.

There are also fascinating entertainment venues available at Carlsbad Village. One notable entertainment venue is the Friday Night Live. One can enjoy live street music on the sidewalks of State Street every Friday night May – October, and a few select nights in December, from 7 – 9pm. You are encouraged to bring your own folding chair and spend the evening listening to music from any genre available that night.

During the summer months, there is Flicks At The Fountain. Free family friendly movies, are shown every Thursday, at the Fountain at Grand Avenue and State Street. Seating begins at 6, with the film beginning at dusk. Families are encouraged to bring their own seating and blankets, and enjoy some free family oriented entertainment under the stars.

This is certainly a one stop fun spot for anybody who desires to take in all Carlsbad has to offer without having to travel to far.
